Vietnamese EV brand VinFast is gearing up to enter the Indian market with its electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7, scheduled to launch during the upcoming festive season. The company has modified its initial approach and has now lowered its first-year sales goal from the original figure, setting a new target of 3,000 units. In addition, VinFast is evaluating the possibility of assembling the two electric SUVs locally through CKD (completely knocked down) kits.
Launch Delay and Key Reasons
The introduction of the VinFast VF6 and VF7 in India has been pushed back by a month. The delay is primarily due to an incomplete sales and distribution network. Initially, production was set to begin at VinFast’s facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on June 30. However, the start date has now been shifted to July 30.
One of the main setbacks is VinFast’s limited dealership presence and uncertainty around its distribution strategy. After showcasing its vehicles at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, VinFast had appointed dealers in 40 cities. However, most of these dealers have since exited the plan due to ongoing concerns about pricing, product positioning, and the overall distribution model. Currently, only 8 to 10 dealers remain committed.

Booking and Delivery Timeline
VinFast will begin accepting bookings for the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs around mid-July. Deliveries across India are expected to start by mid-August 2025. The VF6, a compact electric SUV, will be offered in two variants globally: Eco and Plus. Both variants are powered by a 59.6kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor. The Eco trim delivers 178bhp and 250Nm of torque, while the Plus version increases output to 204bhp and 310Nm.
The VF7 is a larger SUV and also comes in Eco and Plus variants. It features a 75.3kWh battery pack. The Eco model is equipped with a single motor producing 204bhp and 310Nm. Meanwhile, the Plus version uses a dual-motor setup, generating a maximum of 354bhp and 500Nm of torque.
